Other tips
- Take a shower and change clothes after extended periods outside.
- Run the air conditioner.
- Avoid allergens and being outside in early morning and late afternoon, when pollen counts are high. Dry, windy weather also can worsen symptoms.
- A neti pot may wash pollen from sinuses, but use before using nasal sprays.
- Talk with a pharmacist or primary care provider about over-the-counter nasal sprays, eye drops and-oral antihistamines for your symptoms.
"Almost every medicine that is over-the-counter used to be prescription. There really aren't a lot of new treatments," Wille says.
